One of the obstacles is simply adjusting culturally to a pace that challenges our very American notions of success and progress. We're in the final stretch of completing legal ownership of the land very generously donated to us on behalf of the mayor of Boaco, but the process has been - to us - very slow. To our Nicaraguan partners, on the other hand, things have moved rather quickly. These seemingly small adjustments in perspective can at times seem maddening. (Then again, when things do move smoothly it's pure elation!) I think the key thing - and others working in the international nonprofit sector can affirm this - is to keep moving steadily forward but with a sensitivity and recognition that how we regard *time* is often culturally relative.

The question about providing whole health to a community is a separate, and exciting, challenge. We're fortunate to have very strong local partners in Nicaragua who understand well the local community and their behaviors toward health. Without these community health advisors, we wouldn't even be attempting this model. That said, we'd be interested in hearing from others in the field who've tackled some of these issues.

As a US American living in Managua, Nicaragua- I can attest to the very interesting and innovative approach Clinic Verde is try to take in providing health services to people in need. I am curious to learn about obstacles Clinica Verde has faced and ideas that can be shared to overcome such obstacles. It is not easy work to provide whole health care to a community- and I appreciate what you are trying to do. Please keep your supporters informed as you continue to progress. Warmest regards- M
